*Insert MMORPG* - Try out the WoW trial or if you're willing to invest buy Guild Wars 2. Just be warned that these games ARE intense and will make you feel like a terrible waste of space. League of Legends/Dota 2/HoN - Look up some clips and see if they seem like your kind of game. Did I mention I bought it for a fiver? That's value for money right there. I, on the other hand have spent over a week playing (Really, there's an achievement!) purely because this game has so many different gamemodes.

Garry's Mod - I recommended this to some friends, some of them only touched it once.

Planetside 2 - Free to play, large scale combat FPS that would never work on a console - did I mention it's free?

I suppose "Must have pc games" means you're looking for the PC-only experience, in which I'd recommend: Played it a few months back for nostalgiac purposes. You won't be Oh hell yes I love that game.

  • Your Doodles Are Bugged (alright, this game is pretty mediocre, but, um, well, the letter Y is a hard one >_>).
  • No One Lives Forever 2 (Alright, it's not available anywhere :( but I can't think of anything else I've played that starts with 'N').
  • Knights of the Old Republic (let's just take 'Star Wars' as a prefix here).
  • Commander Keen Pack (Commander Keen 1-5).
  • Too many to mention, so, let's pick one game from each letter of the alphabet (only games that are legally available): If this is truly your first time with a PC then just take stuff as it comes. You shouldn't be looking at a list to pick out games to play just because some idiot somewhere says it's a must play. Dragon Age Origins (/w mods).īut like I said. Mafia, Red Alert 2, KOTOR (2 especially with the restored content), Doom, Some MMOs (WoW, Guild Wars, perhaps even EVE). Some version of Counter Strike is also a good idea to try out just to see what it's about. Newer smaller games I'd say FTL, Hotline Miami, Binding of Isaac. Crysis just to know what it's about (it's also a really good game if you "play it right" look for nanosuitninja on YT for examples). From RTS games you should definitely check out something Starcraft related, Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes, Warhammer 40k Dawn of War (2 at least), World in Conflict, Wargame: European Escalation. Half-Life games, Team Fortress 2, Quake, Unreal Tournament, TES: Morrowind, newer Fallout and TES games with mods, Civ games, some of the Sims games (Simgolf, Simcity, Sims.). In the HC sim line there's also Arma and older Operation Flashpoint games but don't even try those unless they sound like heaven to you right at the start (seriously, you already know if you'll like them). You should also probably check out some flight sims or something similar like Freespace, Tie Fighter, perhaps some more HC sims if you're into that kidn of stuff (you sure as hell won't ever experience anything like the DCS games on a console). Diablo 2, Deus Ex, Grim Fandango, System Shock 2, some sort of proper MOBA game maybe not the original Dota but Dota 2 or LoL, some of the more obscure games developed in eastern Europe like STALKER, Metro 2033, Cryostasis. Planescape Torment is something a person should probably check out.

Start with Baldur's Gate series probably. Then you should probably dabble in some Infinity Engine games. I think that's a must play just for history sake if nothing else. Might as well start with something like Zork. All of these games would be spread across the last couple of decades and so much of the experiences vary on so many things. There's a so many games that it would be stupid to start listing a selected few that you should play. It's not like a console that has a set library of games that are more or less equal looking and playing in a general sense at least inside certain genres.

Listing a couple of games on the PC that are "must have" is a crazy idea.
